I've only had the teppan and I can't complain. The service is good. The food is delicious. The portions are generous. The show is fun.
Akira's has plenty of teppan tables available and they usually don't make you wait long for a chef to prepare and start the meal/show. Even at lunch time! We have gone multiple times and can generally stick to the one-hour lunch time if we pay cash. :)
The chefs are friendly and make the meal fun as they cook, which is great. I love teppan and can have it once a week and this is always a great choice. Probably one of the less expensive teppan options in town, I'd say.
They do have a non-teppan/restaurant side and you can have sushi or other teriyaki type meals as well. You can even order sushi or appetizers to the teppan table if you'd like. Lots of options here and plenty of space.
An unfortunate dose of reality...as a child I can remember extremely special occasions coming to Akira; the place was always bustling with people and the experience was great. I was excited to be back at Akira for a relatives graduation party but was disappointed that my old memories would be rewritten with the sad reality that although it looks the same it isn't the same.
Service was good no qualms there but I noticed something that bothered me...the chef didn't season the meat. He did douse it with soy sauce which is great and lathered it with butter...also great but as i waited for the ceremonial bang the salt and pepper shaker on the spatula routine over my sirloin I was sad to say it never came. Later I saw the chef at the table next to ours season the meat so I know it was supposed to happen but it didn't.
That's okay I would go back again because I love the fried rice but won't hurry back.
This is my favorite restaurant ever. I have been coming here since I was a child and pretty much every birthday and occasion since then. It's still just as delicious and exciting. I love introducing new people to this place and having them understand what all my hype is about. Akira's blows every other teppanyaki restaurant out of the water. I've had the chicken, steak, and shrimp which are all amazing and cooked to perfection. The filet melts in your mouth and even the regular steak is succulent and tender. The quality is definitely there. The portion sizes are huge and fill your entire plate. I really appreciate that they haven't downsized the portions over the years. I also like that they don't throw a small bowl of a rice at you and hope for you to catch it like some teppanyaki places do. I'm more than happy with the other tricks that the chefs perform along with the fun conversations and sake bombs. The whole dining experience is great and I'll be coming here regularly for as long as I can.
It's decent. Price is right, but the food is meh. Okay I guess. Waitress was abrupt and pushy. Chef was awesome and did a great job. I wish they would try something new and differentiate themselves from just being boring with the food being equally boring. Get rid of that pushy waitress that makes it incredibly obvious they're trying to push us out. Be slightly warm to your guests.
The service was good from our server but it was hot inside with swamp cooler at the front entrance. Another issue was we ordered a philly roll and the salmon was not fresh and was literally frozen and cut way too thick. Food quality was very poor compared to other local sushi spots. We will try it one more time because we had a great server and hope the food quality improves!
